I’ve Been coming to Vallarta for a few years now but between friends and work I've only been out on one charter and only was able to scratch 1 Sierra. This
trip I made it a top priority to go fishing. I met my friend Ernesto and his family from Guadalajara on 10/28 at our condo and called Capt. Cesar Castellon to
see if he was available for Sat. the 29th on his panga the Gaviota II. The season has not really ramped up yet so he was available. Ernesto, his 10 year old
son Ernesto jr. and myself met Capt. Cesar at 7:00 am and headed out for an 8 our trip west of the Marietas. The ponga felt fishy to me, the weather was
good and water was a deep dark blue, birds were working the water and Bonita were jumping everywhere.fficeffice" />

We got to the line, and put out a 6 rod spread of plastics and bait and started trolling. Just as it seemed that it was going to be a slow day the lower rod on
the port out rigger goes off and 30 or 40 yards behind the boat the first Dorado of the day puts on an aerial show. Guess who is first in the rotation, yep
Ernesto Jr. his first time on a fishing trip and when the Capt. Waved him to the chair he nearly jump out of the boat to get in. Capt. Cesar and first mate Chato
started coaching him on how to bring in his first Bull. This was the best part of the trip, not 2 min in his fight the top rod on the starboard side goes off so next
in our rotation just happens to be his Dad. Now this was an awesome site to see my body and his namesake sitting side by side each fighting there first Dodo’
s. We now have 2 nice Dorado’s in the boat. It took about 30 min to get my turn to bring in a nice bull and now we have 3 in the box. At about 11:30 we get
another hen to bite and its Jr. turn again, this time it was a nice hen, he fought her like a pro and now we have 4 in the box.

4 nice Dorado for the day, there was no afternoon fish for us but we had more fish than we needed. The family and friends where waiting for us so we picked
up everyone, will it took 2 trips to get everyone to “Breakers” in Busarias. This is a new restaurant that our friend Collin opened a couple of months ago. He
cooked up our catch and we had a great night eating, drinking and watching the sun set.

My second trip was scheduled for Nov 2 on the Gaviota II, Capt. Cesar was not feeling so good so Capt. Rodrigo and I headed for the same area West and
SW of the Marieta's. Today we did not have a deckhand so I knew that I would have a chance at the helm and I did as much driving as I wanted. The fishing
was slow but in about 45 min we had our first hook-up of the day, it was a small hen and I farmed it about 10 yards from the boat, I was not yet familiar with
the equipment!!! We trolled for a while with no more strikes, the Capt. And I each donated a peso to King Neptune for luck. I decided to change my hat from a
new ball cap I brought to my old jungle hat I always ware while I fish, I don’t like to believe in lucky hats because a soon as I do I will lose it. But after changing
hats I spent the next hour and a half fighting 4 nice Dorado’, a 100lb and 50lb Sailfish. The big Sailfish was the first one I ever caught, what a fight. It was
another great day on the water and will fish again on the Gaviota II.
